North Sea and Europe Area Stimulation
Abstract
Stimulation has been performed in the North Sea and Europe since the late 1950’s and has had a dramatic impact on the commercial viability of many assets. The focus of this North Sea and European Area Stimulation workshop will be on sharing case history experience gained over recent years and setting the stage for overcoming future challenges. A special focus this year is on recent improvements in horizontal well multi-zone stimulation, both onshore and offshore.
Description
This workshop is intended to address all types of stimulation practices used in the North Sea and in continental Europe. To achieve a fruitful discussion, workshop sessions have been designed to address the very specific technical challenges and the fundamental questions pertaining to stimulation in a sensitive land and offshore environment. Optimising stimulation treatments in economically challenging times, in a technically and environmentally challenging arena, requires special considerations. The participation of major and independent operating companies, service companies, and governmental bodies will allow a wide sharing of views, experiences, and opinions on how to proceed toward successfully meeting all objectives.
Objectives and Deliverables
The objective of this workshop is to bring together a broad cross section of people actively involved in stimulation design and implementation within the region, while also introducing a select number of global stimulation specialists who will share their experiences. Open discussion, coupled with friendly debate, will be encouraged. The goal is to define where we are today, outline the current and future stimulation challenges, and introduce new technologies that may have application in the North Sea and European region. The intended outcome of this workshop is to clearly define what is known and unknown, and to identify the most pertinent and promising solutions that can be applied.
This Workshop Aims To:
Use recent case histories to investigate successful stimulation practices being employed today and:
Focus on future stimulation challenges in the North Sea and Europe and:
Highlight new and underutilised technologies and:
Local: Lisbon, Portugal
Data: 5 a 7 de novembro de 2013

The intended outcome of this workshop is to clearly define what is known and unknown, and to identify the most pertinent and promising solutions that can be applied.
This Workshop Aims To:
Use recent case histories to investigate successful stimulation practices being employed today and:
- Review chalk reservoir stimulation in the North Sea and European environment
- Identify the stimulation challenges in the tight-gas environment
- Address special considerations when stimulation is conducted in mature fields
Focus on future stimulation challenges in the North Sea and Europe and:
- Consider the impact of HP/HT operations and the specific challenges they bring
- Highlight the future of unconventional gas in the region, and special constraints
Highlight new and underutilised technologies and:
- Explore cost-effective sequential multiple-fracturing practices in horizontal wells
- Identify outside technologies or practices that could be viable in the North Sea and Europe environment
- New approaches in carbonate reservoir stimulation
- New completion technologies being applied in the North Sea
- Explore the completions best suited to multiple-fractured horizontal wells in the North Sea and European operating environments.
