Petroleum Reserves & Resources Estimation and its Impact on Business Decisions—PRMS Applications Guidelines Document

Petroleum Reserves & Resources Estimation and its Impact on Business Decisions—PRMS Applications Guidelines Document

On 1 November 2011, SPE posted to its website a document entitled "Guidelines for Application of Petroleum Resources Management System." This document had been in preparation since the publication of the PRMS in March 2007.
The SPE Oil and Gas Reserves Committee decided that it was necessary to create a greater awareness of this important document through workshops and other events in order to promote understanding and uptake by the industry.
This workshop will focus on the Petroleum Resources Management System (PRMS) Applications Guidelines document, giving in-depth views on its content and application to reserves and resources evaluations.
Participants of this workshop will have the opportunity to:
  • Examine PRMS application guidelines in detail
  • Discuss example applications covered in the PRMS application guidelines
  • Discuss SPE’s ongoing support for PRMS
  • Discuss future directions in reserves and resources evaluation and reporting
The petroleum industry is a major component of the global economy. It requires clearly defined standards for reserves and resource development project evaluations to support internal company asset management, government inventory management, project financing, and disclosures to investors under applicable regulatory guidelines. Ongoing collaboration amongst industry professionals ensures that the classification systems and estimation methods are periodically revised to accommodate the requirements of all major stakeholders.
The workshop will consist of two days of informal sessions, including a number of short presentations and discussions per session.
