This course aims to provide a general overview of the structure and functioning of shallow lakes, in a fashion that the information can be usefully applied in water quality assessment, water quality management and rehabilitation of shallow lakes and reservoirs. It is aimed to provide the participants with a background in ecology and limnology, so as to guide him/her in judging on the impact of certain measures or disturbances on freshwater ecosystems and in developing and evaluating restoration measures and interpreting reports on environmental degradation.
